“As a newer reporter, I’m not sure I would be anywhere near as successful as I am without Marie by my side proofreading all of my transcripts! There were nights we stayed up together and worked in shifts to get next day trials turned in. This is more than I’d ever expect from a proofreader. Not only does it free up my time to take more jobs, it gives me the confidence to know I am turning in the best work possible!”
— Gina S., Chicago Court Reporter
“Marie is so easy to work with. Over our many years of working together, a deadline has never been missed.
Her work is always excellent. She’s my first choice every time!”
— Myra P., Louisiana Court Reporter
“I have been a court reporter for over 30 years, and I can say without a doubt Marie is the best proofreader I have ever worked with! We are going on our fourth year of working together, and we have an excellent working relationship. She has extensive knowledge of proper punctuation and grammar usage in court reporting; she is detail-oriented, has an “eye” for finding errors in a transcript; and deadlines are always met. Emails to her are usually responded to within minutes. When the final product is turned in to my office, I am confident it is the very best it can be. I could not ask for anything more from a proofreader. Marie is truly a gem.”
— Norma S., Florida Court Reporter
“Marie is an absolute pleasure to work with in every aspect of the job. The quality of her work is outstanding, no matter what type of transcript I send her. She pays particular attention to context, which is most important to me, as well as suggesting proper punctuation. Corrections are brought to my attention in a clean and easy-to-understand manner. Work is always sent back to me on time, and she is excellent with communication, responding very quickly to my emails. After an excruciatingly long search for a quality proofreader, I feel lucky to have found Marie. I am a very busy reporter, and it’s imperative that I have a proofreader that I can trust and count on.”
— Cindy M., California Court Reporter

proofreading method

Corrections are made in a PDF format and are clearly marked and highlighted. If you’re unfamiliar with this method, I’m confident you’ll find this preferable! Some benefits of PDF proofreading include:

  • Quality Control: You will have the final say in what corrections are made as you choose which ones to include in your transcript.

  • Compatibility: PDF proofing is compatible with all software systems.

  • Affordability: Paperless proofreading is a cost savings.

  • Sustainability: Digital proofreading saves trees.

  • Availability: PDF proofreading allows for more flexibility with out-of-office work as it can be done anywhere.

  • Exceptional Searchability: Proofreading in a digital format allows for easy searchability within a document, something that wouldn’t be possible on paper.

my Promise

Professional proofreading is provided with meticulous attention to detail, clear and friendly communication, timely turnaround to meet your deadlines, and transcripts customized according to your individual style preferences.

I want both of us to feel that we’ve found a good match in working together. If I feel I cannot meet your needs, I’ll be honest and provide you with referrals.

ABOUT Marie

After living in the Pacific Northwest and working as an administrator in the arts and human services fields, I returned to my home state of New York in 2016 and turned a lifelong love of words into my work as a professional proofreader. I live and work from a historic home nestled amidst woods and gardens in Upstate New York and have the joy of spending my workweek with words and partnering with amazing clients.

I have worked with court reporters from California to New York and Canada on over 275,000 pages of transcripts including criminal trials, workers' compensation cases, medical expert testimony, depositions, court hearings, and more.

My training includes Transcript Proofreading: Theory and Practice, a rigorous and comprehensive course based on Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters, NCRA guidelines, and the work of Margie Wakeman Wells, a certified court reporting instructor and author of Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation. And I’m a firm believer in ongoing professional development and have taken courses from the Publishing Training Centre, Mediabistro, Margie Holds Class, and the Editorial Freelancers Association.
